Maya Angelou's life growing up wasn't always perfect. Considering that the birth name of Marguerite Ann Johnson, Maya Angelou was borin at St. Louis, Missouri on April 4th, 1928. Although she had been born there, she spent most of her childhood in Stamps, Arkansas with her Grandmother, Annie Henderson and in San Fransico, California with her mother. Maya Angelou is still alive now and educates at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. Maya had to deal with many hard things growing up and even though it wasn't perfect, she has lead an extremely eventful life. Maya never needed a very functional family. Her mom, Vivian Baxter, had been a nurse and also nurse and her daddy Bailey Johnson had been a maid dietician. When Maya was only 3 years old her parents divorced. Maya's dad shipped her and 4 year-old brother Bailey to reside with his mom in Arkansas while their mom moved to California. Since her parents divorced when she had been so young, Maya never actually understood what a healthy relationshop seemed like and in the very long run this affected her own love life. In 1950, however, when Maya was only 22, she married Tosh Angelos, an ex-sailor. They didn't have much in common though and 3 years after they were divorced. Maya didn't have other relationships with men but they never appeared to exercise. Although her relationships between love weren't effective, her spirits were. Back in 1964, Maya fulfilled Malcolm X. The two became great friends and he even offered her a job to help him construct a new civil rights organization, the Organization of African American Unity. Unfortunately, he had been assassinated shortly after she began working with him. After Malcolm X's assasination, Martin Luther King Jr. contacted Maya and asked for the help to arrange a march.
