Dangerous Authority Since the day that you were born you have been slowly instructed to obey authority. Parents set forth tips as you mature that you are expected to uphold to your very good. With all you have learned about obeying power, it can become difficult for some people to observe if to say no. Psychologist Stanley Milgram once said "obedience is a deeply ingrained behavior tendency, indeed a powerful impulse overriding training in ethics, compassion, and moral conduct" (359). Folks can sometimes be blinded by their own obedience to power, rather than see how they're being infringed upon, or how they're a weapon at abusing another. There comes a point in which you must learn how to say no to authority, this can be when authorization reaches a harmful level and your rights along with also other innocent people's rights are being broken. In society today, people as taxpayers give up a certain quantity of rights and place them into the hands of our government. We select these officials and bestow on them a particular level of trust that they will do things to gain us, and our nation. They make the legislation we agree to abide by and protect us. This is a good instance of a fair degree of power. Nevertheless, does that mean we should blindly sit by if our rights have been taken advantage of? A famous case of when you should evaluate the authority, and go against it is the American Revolution. "No taxation without representation", is a phrase people as Americans are all comfortable with.
