The African inner town is a place where family could come in the form of gangs or collective areas, like the pizzeria from the movie, Do the appropriate Thing, and yet these areas and the folks that find surrogate family in the inner city often just lead to lives of violence. There is a common gathering place, in this case the pizza shop. Social networking occurs in the roads and in the metropolitan setting. There are many ethnic mixes, and in this event the Italian pizza shop is owned by Italian immigrants, and this can be significant. Urban isolation, and the everyday struggles and tension are a highly effective part of, Do the appropriate Thing. The fights that erupt as the warmth in the interior city rises, and therefore do tempers and migraines. Spike Lee does a wonderful job of showing the realities of how harsh life in the inner city is for all those that are within an urban jungle, and also how that may shape their lives. The town can be a great thing or a bad thing, even for African Americans that it is frequently a bad thing as they get trapped in gangs believing that this is the only way they will have family. This is true in certain aspects, because according to the household, kids could be abandoned because of medication or become susceptible to violence. From the movie, one of those kids, who lives round the pizzeria, is a little woman is abused in the home. This often occurs in broken houses, like the ones depicted by Spike Lee. In other instances kids come from good homes. For example, if one comes from a prominent African American family, they know that everybody deals with everybody, they work with each other to care for each other. In the film, you will find a number of older black guys that behave like grandfathers to the folks on the cube. This is reminiscent from a few of the course readings, Family M.. .
