The Restoration period can be known as the Age of Dryden, since Dryden was the dominating and many representative literary figure in this Age. During the recovery, King Charles II was restored to the throne, which marked the beginning of a new epoch in English literature. The Restoration of King Charles II caused a revolutionary change in literature and life. During this interval gravity, ethical earnestness and decorum in all matters, which distinguished that the Puritan time, were forgotten; cheerfulness and gaiety were the new moods and morality had been waning (Chavan).
