Progressivism had been that the reform period in the united states during the 20th Century which altered the lives of everyone. Industrialization, urban growth, the rise of great businesses, and widening class divisions through the early 1900s influenced all Americans. For all its benefits, industrialization led many factory workers and slumdwellers to endure a desperate cycle of poverty, exhausting labour, as well as early death. Seeing such conditions, a new middle class of researchers and urban professionals - who'd gained political effect - middle class girls - who'd joined clubs and reform organizations - along with the urban-immigrant governmental machines - and employees themselves - hunted to focus the country's attention on pressing societal issues. These problems initially were addressed by most women-led associations in the 1890s at the city and state levels. Thereafter, as journalists, novelists, religious leaders, and politicians joined in, these grass-roots efforts morphed into a nationwide movement. This movement of reform has been known as the movement. The progressive movement comprised, among others, four areas of reform: social, economic, moral, and efficiency. In the region of social reform, the main problems which were put at task have been poverty, and education, living conditions and women's rights. To help resolve these problems, by way of instance, settlement houses, created by individuals such as Jane Addams, provided social and educational opportunities for working class people - most of these recent immigrants - in the surrounding neighborhood.
