Having composed a multitude of short stories and novels, writer, John Cheever, has showcased his incredible composing abilities multiple times during his career. Even as a youngster, Cheever outwardly expressed his desire to write. According to his longstanding career, Cheever's thirst for writing stayed with him during his entire life. In perhaps his most famous bit of work, "The Swimmer," Cheever's impeccable writing capability is showcased closely. Although initially set out for a book, "The Swimmer" has grown to become a widely recognized and analyzed short narrative, one that both viewers and literary critics alike admire. By drawing upon his personal life and by utilizing a wide variety of writing techniques, Cheever depicts and documents the protagonist Neddy's physical and mental passing and journey involving death, while still relating the storyline to many different functions. In doing so, Cheever ultimately addresses the negative facet of their human state. John Cheever was born on May 27th, 1912 at Quincy, Massachusetts to parents Fredrick and Mary Cheever. Growing upward, Cheever lived a life that was perpetually characterized by several hardships. For one, the Cheever family fell victim to a financial crisis from the mid-1920s if Cheever's father lost his job due to the passing of the New England cloth and shoe industry. This, coupled with his bad performance in almost any other academic field besides writing, spurred the then eighteen-year-old John Cheever to go live with his older brother, Fred Cheever, at Boston. The brother's relationship would soon grow stronger and stronger as they spent more and more time with one another.
