The idea of God being defined and within art is an extremely interesting concept. God can be easier understood and explained by the concepts of art. This is simply not a common idea, though it makes a whole lot of sense actually. In Joseph Kupfer’s essay The innovative art of Religious Communication he discusses his ideas of God in relation to art. His essay discusses most of the various ways that God can frequently be viewed through art in a more realistic way. Often in the wonderful world of art things could be explained with techniques that other things can't be. In Kupfer’s essay, he explains God’s transcendence and existence, to be something only understood though art. Art includes a method of explaining things that research and logic cannot. In the first portion of The Art of Religious Communication Kupfer explains why “religious belief and interpretation of experience are better expressed artistically than argued for rationally” (310). Often when people try to describe God they run into many problems because rationally, as Kupfer clarifies, God cannot be comprehended through rational argument. God isn't a being that matches in to the realms that science is basically because “God’s existence is normally unlike anything the presence of other things” (Kupfer 311). Trying to describe the existence of God through rational arguments will always fail. Rational arguments will need to have limits, so when the plain thing being explained is limitless, the arguments will fail generally. In explaining anything else, the existence of that is not exactly like its qualities. “The form, excess weight, or color of something presupposes that it exists” But with God males often try to describe his living using his attributes (311). It really is apparent why this fails. The existence of God may be the more basic compared to the even.
