Assessing a symbol as a literary convention used by writer, Junot Díaz creates a way to identify the purpose of the device. In his novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (2007), that the mechanism is utilised to create an explicit character and point of view. The symbol is a sensory image that retains wealthy implication that is either a broad or narrow. Calculatedly Díaz used this emblem several times throughout his novel to bestow more depth into his storytelling and possibly as a catalyst backdrop for political violence.
