Comparing A&P and An Ounce of Remedy If a reader can be given two brief stories, two tales that are apparently different on the top, to read and compare, a surprising amount of similarities and distinctions can be found. Unless they handle the same subject material, most short stories aren't really related, until some analysis is performed. The tales "A&P," by John Updike, and "An Ounce of Treatment," by Alice Munro, are extremely similar but completely different. Among the mot essential similarities between both of these stories may be the problems the contrary sex "causes" for the primary personality. In "A&P," Sammy, the primary character, quits his work because he thinks that his boss offers mistreated and embarrassed three youthful women which were shopping in the shop. In "An Ounce of Remedy," the female primary character's boyfriend dumps her and she responds by attempting to overdose on aspirin, gets drunk, and loses the vast majority of her baby-sitting jobs. Another similarity between both of these stories may be the fact they are established between thirty and forty years back. This is very vital that you both stories. In "A&P," the young girls wouldn't have been travelling in a store within their bathing suits, plus they definitely wouldn't have already been wearing a two piece swimwear if this have been set any earlier. Also, Sammy most likely wouldn't have stop his job because his boss embarrassed a few teenagers.
