The Crucibles Tragic Hero A terrible event must bring fear and shame to the reader along with the protagonist should be courageous and noble, hence when combined with a tragic hero is introduced. The protagonist, John Proctor, depicts a tragic hero at The Crucible. His hamartia of treachery caused great internal battles, he exhibits hubris by challenging jurisdiction, and struck catastrophe as the play went on. John Proctor's choice to betray his wife caused inner chaos and finally lead to his ruin at the close of the play. Proctor's tragic flaw was that by which he committed treachery, which provoked part of the misfortune. Proctor's serious error of adultery delivered issues with Abigail and caused by an accusation of his wife practicing witchcraft. Abigail was a very young woman, and yet she was an orphan who loathed John Proctor's sexual urge for authentic love. After Proctor told Abigail that the connection couldn't longer persist, the woman became mad and didn't accept this. In order to establish Abigail's sinfulness and also to discredit her in the front of the court, Proctor proclaimed that he had an affair for this evil whore. This outraged the courtroom officers and they summoned Elizabeth Proctor to get the reality. When asked about her husband, Elizabeth's soul was twisted, so for revealing the truth could ruin her husband's standing, but lying supposed breaking her solemn oath to God.
