One's future is influenced by several things; decisions, effects of choices, and commitments to decisions. When asked to specify how my future is influenced in accordance with my commitments, it required a great deal of thought to determine how I saw commitments. Webster defines commitment as "an agreement or pledge to do something in the future". With definition in mind, it's easy to observe how responsibilities influence our future - they basically create our future by defining its own duties. Upon this discovery, I pondered responsibilities I have made up for this point in my life and the way each devotion affected me. I thought about what from small commitments such as promising my mother that I would call when I was going to be late, to enormous responsibilities such as committing to myself and to God that I would abstain from sexual relationships until I was wed. The more I thought, the more I understood that all my responsibilities fell into one of four categories: a commitment to look for the Truth, a devotion to my loved ones, a dedication to continually teach myself, and a commitment to serve others. The first class, a commitment to look for the Truth, is, in my opinion, perhaps the most important commitment that someone could make. My commitment to this search leads me to locate the indisputable complete in each circumstance. Although today we are constantly told that the world no longer stands for absolutes, I am here to inform the world that they're incorrect. Murder is murder, Justice is always Justice, Love never stops to be Love, Honor continues to be Honorable, and the Truth is the Truth, regardless of the setting.
