Music is a fundamental requirement in the entire world that we live in now. We all implement music in our daily lives whether it's professionally or solely for entertainment purposes. Many people build careers on music as musicians, composers, singers, or even educators while the latter of us just need music to make it through the day if we are driving or at work or just need to unwind. The demand for music in our contemporary society affects us in a plethora of different ways - such as the undeniable effect on our moods. The sound of just 1 note, 1 chord, may send an immediate message to the mind that, psychologically, can make us think or behave in a specific way. These responses can positively or negatively affect our moods based on the composer's intentions and our perceptions. Filmmakers apply the same idea using music to evoke a particular feeling or reaction/perception within their crowd. Music in motion pictures is a necessary tool filmmakers utilize to effect the mood of the viewers. It often gets underrated because of overriding psychological force since it's employed subliminally by filmmakers beneath their narrative so that their audience is unaware of its presence. Nicholas Cook, author of Analyzing Musical Multimedia, states, "words and pictures deal mostly with the specificwhile music deals mostly with responses - which is, with values, emotions, and attitudes." (22). But, there's certain music that is suppose to be discovered by the audience as part of the cinematic diegesis. All sounds that are understood by characters in the story are known as diegetic; however, those sounds which aren't a part of the diegesis are referred to as nondiegetic. This would imply that diegetic music is processed to the conscious level while nondiegetic music might remain on the subconscious level (Gorbman, 75).
