World War II was an international event that forever changed the world. From devastating events to heart wrenching tales, World War II bore witness to a number of the funniest acts against humanity. A disagreement exists within the differences between the background and the memory of the war. From historians to how societies recall that it, the war shifted everybody. Many argue that the United States entered the war for ulterior motives others recall its involvement as a requirement to be able to stop a more catastrophic outcome. Whether one remembers the war because they dwelt or simply because they read about it differences of opinions still exist regardless of historical evidence or witness reports. From the post, “The Second World War in U. S. History and Memory” from Mark A. Stoler, the author addresses the differences between history and the memory of this war. The author discusses how historical temptations of World War II radically shifted the United Stated. However, during that time Americans misunderstood those transformations which led to them failing to understand what really happened was that their memory of this warfare diverged sharply from historic reality (Stoler, 2001). According to the writer, not only did the United States emerge because of “Powerhouse” following its participation in the war but also it served as a catalyst for an economic increase. Additionally, the war also played a significant role in the national battle against racism, even though segregation still existed from the armed forces, along with the black civil rights movement. The U.S. participation in the war also functioned as a gateway for most girls to enter the workforce causing the war to become a landmark in women’s background.
