Nationalism creates a feeling of identity among people and countries. As taxpayers unite with a common desire, the pride made could topple even the controlling of regimes. Through the French revolution at the late 1700's, French nationalism climbed to an all-time high. Unfortunately the destruction and death was an irrefutable consequences. Throughout the late 1700's the biggest events that occur to allow the French revolution to construct are the storming of Bastille, creation of the national assembly, implementation of monarchy, and the reign of terror. The starting of this shift in nationalism in France during the 1700's was once the storming of the Bastille. In this event an angry mob surrounded the Bastille and informed the guards inside to allow the bridges down so they could ruin the prison. They got in and stole all the armor, weaponry, ammo, and released offenders. This occurred on July 14, 1789. In the prison that they just found 7 political offenders. "The Bastille symbolized the tyranny of their absolute monarchy in France," (Beers. 1989, p. 31). This quotes tells us all of the reason why the people stormed the Bastille on that July day. Individuals of France wanted a new monarchy or government cause the one which they had was doing a dreadful task by charging high taxation into the 3rd estate that could not manage it and starting unnecessary wars with other nations. Also the king had been spending ridiculous amounts because of his own leisure, therefore they destroyed a symbolic building of the monarchy to reveal they desired change and also to fight King Louie XIV.
