In our course we learned a full lot about the many military regimes that happened throughout Latin America. However out of all the types we discussed, Brazil’s dictatorship was never mentioned. I made a decision to write about it, but simultaneously evaluate it to the various other armed service regimes in Latin America also. Unlike the majority of the other governments, Brazil’s military one had not been as brutal. It by no means measured up to the brutality of the Argentinian dictatorship or the ruthlessness of the dictatorship in Bolivia. However it was not a simple time either. Many Brazilians were many and exiled lost their lives due to this oppressive government. To start everything off, the regime did not merely occur from one day to the next. There have been years of build-up to the eventual bust up. Janio Quadros was elected as president in 1960 after Juscelino Kubitschek was in control; he based his whole marketing campaign on criticizing Juscelino and also to outright corruption in his federal government. Acquiring his idea to a fresh level, Janio produced his symbol a broom because he designed to clean the national authorities up. Janio was only president for just two years but during his tenure he increased Brazil’s relations with communist countries which didn't make his opposition comfortable (Evanson). In 1961 he resigned as president and his vice president, Joao Goulart, was to be produced into president. But when this occurred Joao was in China plus some of the heads of the armed service tried to avoid him from getting president because they believed he was a communist plus they didn't want a communist mind of state (Breneman).
