"Realism in, art and literature, [is] an attempt to explain human behavior and surroundings or to represent figures and objects exactly as they act or appear in life" (Realism 1). Through the 1840's through the 1890's precision was present in much of the literature from the United Sates and Europe. It has been stated that realism is easily visible in several parts of contemporary literature and even in present day movies. Back in 2001, the movie Training Day was released into theatres. Lots of critics agreed that the film was very realistic. In fact, the main actor Denzel Washington was introduced with an academy award for his performance in Training Day. Training Day could be considered realistic, but a lot of aspects of the film show little precision. The movie, Training Day, illustrates how some police officers take advantage of their positions that's realistic. Mikkelsen says that, ? The new movie Training Day is a wonderful fictional demonstration of how the State, in this instance the authorities, offer a ? Legalized channel for offense? (Mikkelsen 1).) ? It's challenging to define the line between doing the perfect thing and doing the wrong thing to stop a crime. As Mikkelson explains, ? Many of the events must be anticipated: violence against suspects, confiscation and use of medication and particularly cash, violations of due process, graft (Mikkelsen 1). ? In the end of the movie the main character is killed and the police department makes up a story venerating his death in a favorable way. In all reality Harris was killed by the Russians since he lost his temper and killed someone who was ? Talking trash? About him. This is shown when Mikkelsen states, ? The state ought to defend cops, when you can, because publicity about ? bad cops? Doesn't reflect nicely o.. .
