Central Styles in The Graduate The designs of loneliness, entrapment and isolation are central to the narrative of the 1967 film The Graduate. Through the entire film, many devices are found in order to communicate this to the audience. This list of devices includes the use of glass and water for example, which is seen in lots of moments and emphasizes the isolation and entrapment of the not really particularly exceptional but worthy child who drowns among many objects and items throughout this film. The first scene we will look at may be the ongoing party at the start of the film; I find this an ideal example to check out Ben’s reactions and his need or need to be alone at all times, he doesn’t prefer to be around that lots of people for a lot of time, or actually virtually no time at all. There’s a part at the start of this scene whenever we see Ben sitting alone with the lights off, but we don’t recognize they’re off until his father will come in and switches them on, interrupting the silence and producing Ben unpleasant since he really wants to be alone obviously. Then there are some shots where we are able to get yourself a glimpse of the aquarium, but more importantly, we start to see the scooba diver within it. When you come to think about it, the scooba diver will there be always, in the center of the depth of the water in the fishtank, having glass and water putting him into total isolation, trapped but exhibited always, looked at, he's at the mercy of people’s examination. This whole point may signify Ben’s both loneliness and entrapment aside from isolation that we mentioned previously. Close-ups on Ben’s face and his gestures recommend drastically that he wants to be left alone, but his parents insist...
