We live in a different way in the 21st century. This century is highly linked with technology advancement, high range of motion, globalization, and era Z. Technology Z or iGeneration is a name used for the cohort of folks born from the first 2000s for this day. This technology has some different characteristics using its preceding generation, allowing us to apply different strategy in education.
I begins with the situation of the current education system. The biggest problem is, it did not motivate kids. An incredible number of kids have no idea any purposing of heading to institution, except obligation. When we went to college we were indoctrinated by circumstance: work hard, compensated have well, get a college or university, and finally you will have a job. But in the future, it isn't guarantee any longer, not if the route to it marginalises what you think important about yourself. Furthermore, facing the unstable economic circumstances.
This current system was designed and conceived for a new time: Victorians, between 18th and 19th century. It was organized in the intellectual culture of the enlightenment and in the monetary circumstances of the commercial trend. The intellectual style of the mind explained that the true intelligence consist of capacity of deductive reasoning and knowledge of the classics, whatever we come to think as academic capability. It divides people to academic and non educational, smart people and non-smart people. In implications, many great people think that they are not.
In this technique, these kids are medicated. They may be forced to ignore any distraction such as video games, iphones, television, and concentrate to the uninteresting stuff at institution. Students start dropping their interest, hardly thinking right, and losing their attention completely. In school, they are given the idea and required to memorize it, without knowing the relevant of this context in real life. That's the reason students still disengaged.
It becomes more severe with quantitative standardised screening. They only know they oblige to review and pass the standard. Education is modeled predicated on the eye of industrialization and in the image than it. Classes are organised on stock lines and students are its created products. The Victorians produce education which remake us photocopy of each other. How will you be submissive, how will you take a seat patiently be disengaged for about two hours and take it. The arts will be the victims of the mentality.

Whenever we arresting about the enjoyment of these things with our experiencing, when we are totally alive. Designing new model of education needs cooperation of students, educators, schools, and administration. Lets focus on basic question, the type of output that people want from education system? I always imagine if academic institutions can be place where students can come excitingly, full of self-directed knowledge, so much more love and information about they would like to do. It's the real learning process, they learn something when they have got reason to learn it.
First, we have to waking them up to what is inside of themselves! If we are enthusiastic about the model of learning, we ought to not start from production brand mentality. We must change our path from conformity-standardised evaluation and curriculum to divergent thinking. Divergent thinking can be an essential capacity for creativity-the procedure for having original ideas which have value. It is ability to see lots of possible answers to a question, lots of ways to interpret a question, and also to think laterally, not simply in linear or convergent ways. We would not assess this subject is superior and this is not. We teach them how to trust their self interest, be thankful, and facilitate that. In addition, it imperative to change the culture of our own organizations that treat educational students as the potentials product and non-academic students as the residuals.
Second, we have to slice the disengaged chain between university and the reality. We must modified our goal: score oriented become exploration focused. Students aren't teached how to answer questions on the exam, but how one problem in the real word can be connected and answered by theory they discovered in the class. They need to not forced to forget their favourite game titles or television channels, but we lead incorporate them with education. The point is, we do not limit their thoughts. They may include unique questions or even unanswerable, but it's the way they can start pondering critically. Students will know how their school linked to their life, plus they used to see things from knowledge perspective.
Third, concentrating on the reading comprehension and critical skill. Actually, it predicated on Indonesia condition. Whereas, reading ability is the essential of science learning. Why it can happen? One of the reason is, we do not have reading understanding curriculum, we only have language curriculum. I likewise have just found that reading to understanding is by making annotation next to the important paragraph and rewrite it on our very own words through essay, not the multiple choice. The multiple choice-we used to use, is not stimulate students to love literacy and read, causing the open-minded is not developed. Finally, they do not learn how to solve a problem-things they'll face in reality.
As I stated before, this education reform also need professor collaboration. We know, sometimes teacher snacks their students as how these were cured by their teacher. It is totally different. Today technology is immune system from such rigid college and strict rules are not effective anymore. Professors need to know steps to make them go to university voluntarily and totally motivated. The class room has to be made to provide enough space for increasing students thoughts and exploration. However, professors will be the executor of curriculum in the school. Proceed through country with the best education system, Finland, educators there are well educated and trained. Better education system need better human being resource to provide it.
Finally, what I hope to maintain the new style of school and high school for 21st century will be the students that packed with learning eagerness and the teachers that focuses on exploration somewhat than how to get ready students passing the exam. I want reading-writing culture and interest colored the institution. I do not need modern organization dumped critical thinking because there is no debate facilitator. Education is not knowledge copy that remake students as a blueprint of the teacher. Students must have ability to transform the knowledge, therefore the final goal of education to place out generations who can answer the age threat can be achieved.
