Abraham Maslow, the popular humanist psychiatrist, believed in the theory of self-actualization. He was certain that individuals are capable of reaching high degrees of intellectual and emotional presence, and he believed in human being potential. In his definition and discussions of self-actualization, Maslow made it clear what characteristics and qualities self-actualized persons possess. Yet , he did not provide much commentary about how precisely the environment and activities associated with an individual may possibly affect that person and their improvement toward self-actualization. Maslow's standard attitude toward social influence was basically negative. Generally he believed that the sociable environment inhibits rather than makes it possible for self-actualization by frustrating the low needs, stimulating defensiveness, or masking the true self with an idealized false personal.
