The Causes of Stereotypes Essay

In the present00 era, stereotypes seem to be the ways people justify and simplify the society. Actually, "[s]tereotypes are one way in which we all ‘define' the earth in order to observe it" (Heilbroner 373). Stereotypes are usually created based on a great individual's overall look, race, and gender that could put labels on persons. (好像太短了 要再長一點,還可以加什麼?)

The appearance of a person generally is one of the most crucial causes of stereotypes. People generally tend to belief a person from the actual see and think. In Brent Staples's "Just Walk On By: A Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space, " he skilled a certain stereotype from a white woman because of his appearance. This individual explained, "To her, the youngish dark man—a broad six feet two in . with a loaf of bread and billowing hair, both hands shoved in to the pockets of any bulky army jacket—seemed menacing close" (Staples 343). That white woman labeled Worn as a hazardous person who may hurt her, so the lady ran away as soon as the girl could. Basically, people usually define "‘suspicious characters'" because "‘swarthy' or ‘dark and foreign-looking'" (Heilbroner 372). Furthermore, "[m]ixed social signals include perpetuated certain stereotypes" (Ortiz Cofer 378). Ortiz Cofer experienced the normal stereotype as being a Hispanic girl in the United States. For instance, the Latina women are usually viewed as the "‘hot tamale'" by using the words like "‘sizzling'" or "‘smoldering'" for meanings (Ortiz Cofer 378). Ortiz Cofer sensed that she was typically seen as a subject rather than a woman. Throughout the illustrations, appearance seems to be a primary approach how persons define an individual; yet, overall look is also a cause of creating stereotypes on others.

Race is another huge cause of stereotypes. For example, bei...
