Portier describes custom as a dialect, an act, or even a great historical text message handed to us with a family member, those we connect to on a daily basis and the cultural environment we are part of. Such tradition, defines whom someone is most beneficial by dialogue because traditions can give enough illustration of something or perhaps give sufficient space to review between past and present traditions. (20) Tradition, assists us problem and response the possibilities of human existence and experience through the complications and circumstances we encounter every single day, which existence goes on in respect to what you understand as a tradition and influences your everyday existence. It acts while an answer to each day problems or perhaps situations that may be answered by past practices that you get the hang of in time. (17) An example of this tradition will be in the character Amal. Mohamed Nasrullah Abdel-Hakim is a sixteen year old Aussie Palestinian-Muslim secondary school girl whom struggles with everyday Teen issues influenced by Society. Although she is coming from Australia, these issues are common. Issues like drinking, smoking, peer pressure and body image are just a couple of that her friends inside the novel, "Does my Head Appearance big in this, face also. However the lady stays faithful to her religious beliefs even in the middle of society's impact especially about teenage girls. In this book she is a Muslim and struggles while using fallacies that come with the idea of the Islamic traditions formed by simply society. In her attempts to change the minds of those who consider Muslims to be terrorist, she decides to step out upon faith and wear a Hijab to school. Amal happily puts her religion prior to her facing outward thoughts and feelings nevertheless for many teenage girls grounded in western cultural traditions, which can be hard to do, so T...
.... But Amal is a great example of a teenage young lady who was able to surpass social influences and grow in very little and beliefs. Something that various other teenage girls may learn to do by reading this book. Portier makes interesting points factor of humans and how that shapes and individual into who they are which gives us the answers towards the great concerns we request in life about what he claims, "harbors its own resources for self-criticism and progress. " (22)
