Background:

Satisfaction is the repercussion of the university student to organizational success. Actually, satisfaction represents the level of student's content in giving an answer to the specificity of services provided by the organization. Thus scholar satisfaction is a major criterion in deciding the quality provided through the procedure of services. If we are satisfied, we will do our best as success is determined by satisfaction of individuals.

In our research, we try to determine the prevalence of satisfied medical students about medical profession in Egypt and its association with academic performance and other related factors in order to attain ultimate benefit for our future medical professionals and clinicians.

Primary objectives:

To assess the prevalence of satisfied medical students about medical career in Egypt.

Secondary targets:

  • To evaluate the prevalence of

- Satisfied medical students about: - The faculty they can be enrolled in. - Academics / clinical years. - Functional sessions and academic lectures.

- Students who'll recommend other to pursue medicine as a specialist career.

  • To evaluate the relationship between satisfied medical students and other factors (Gender, Academic performance, Being from urban or rural settings, Contribution in extracurricular activities, Cause of entrance of medical institution, Intention of job planning)

Method: Questionnaire structured multi-center cross-sectional study.

Population: Undergraduate medical students in Egypt.

Setting: We will conduct our research in 10 out of 19 randomly selected medical colleges in Egypt (Goal Shams, Al-Alzhar medical school in Cairo, Medical schools in Alexandria, Assiut, Banha, Bani Suef, Cairo, Menoufia, Suez Canal and Tanta).

Study duration: Five months from 1st April 2015 to 1st Sept 2015.

Introduction:

The profession of medication has used its members on a vast ride in the past century leading to a massive increase in healthcare workforce(1). Satisfaction is the repercussion of the university student to organizational success. Actually, satisfaction presents the amount of student's content in responding to the specificity of services provided by the organization. Thus college student satisfaction is a significant criterion in deciding the quality provided through the procedure of services. If we are satisfied, we can do our best(2). Students choose the medical job due to several factors after high school. Some choose to follow medicine as a job for job security and a lavish income(3). Others choose medication because of their family link with medicine or even to obtain a great reputation from being a physicion(4). But still 'Interest in health and remedies' is the most crucial reason behind choosing medication as a specialist career(5).

All these factors raise the intention that lack of enough information about their field of analysis has a great influence on their satisfaction and objective to complete their analysis. Many physicians reported no uncertainties that they had made the right career choice. In contrast, studies about 30-40% of rehearsing physicians wouldn't normally only choose to enter into the medical occupation if indeed they were deciding on a career again, but also wouldn't normally encourage their children to go after a medical career(6)(7).

Regarding satisfaction of the choosing the medical field, a study discovered that 59. 4 of the first 12 months students are satisfied with their field of research, 31. 8% were content with the university but not the field, 2% of the students were dissatisfied using their university or college and field. In the 4th calendar year of university or college the percentage of dissatisfaction with the school and field increased to 16. 3%. The marks of the students were higher in the first year and decreased in the next years and so recommended that the method of advantages to college or university should be revised(2)(3).

Career planning is a huge essential aspect insuring their life future success, so we aim to highlight factors that may influence students' satisfaction with the medical career and its own relation with academic performance.

Also we aim to assess other factors related to degree of satisfaction impacting on them as students and future clinicians such as (gender, academics performance, being from rural or urban areas, extracurricular activities and attendance of lectures).

There is a study shows that ladies are more advanced than guys in learning and memorizing which have an impact on their performance(8). On the other hand a recent analysis in Croatia has found that students from highly urbanized background reported the best academics levels, while students from rural and remote backgrounds reported the poorest(9).

It might be scheduled to social modification and ethnical collectivism in which girls will be more superior than kids(10). Also a report exhibited that students who take part in extracurricular activities are less inclined to drop out and much more likely to possess higher academic achievement(11). Until now, no up to date research conducted regarding students' satisfaction and its own association with educational performance in Egypt and many other factors impacting it.

Medical students are the backbone of the medical education process. Their ideas must be studied into consideration during analysis of the educational process. Little satisfaction is critical if impacting the academic performance and future specialized medical performance.

So our main concern is to uncover the prevalence of students' satisfaction about medical career in Egypt and its association with academic performance and factors influencing it to be able to reach ultimate advantage for our future physicians and clinicians. Targets:

To evaluate the prevalence of satisfied medical students about the medical job in Egypt.

  • To evaluate the prevalence of - Satisfied medical student towards: - The faculty they are really signed up for. - Academic / specialized medical years. - Functional sessions and academics lectures. - Students who'll recommend other to follow medicine as a professional career.
  • To assess the association between satisfied medical university student and other factors: - Gender. - Academic performance. - Participation in extracurricular activities. - Being from metropolitan or rural configurations. - Cause of access of medical university. - Motive of profession planning and chasing a particular area of expertise.

  • Relation between satisfied medical students and other factors: - Gender. - Educational performance. - Involvement in extracurricular activities. - Being from urban or rural configurations. - Reason behind entry of medical college. - Objective of profession planning and chasing a particular specialty.   • We will use a organized web-based and self-reported questionnaire.
  • We will enquire about satisfaction with medical career by using a likret scale of satisfaction (highly satisfied, satisfied, partially satisfied rather than satisfied).

Secondary outcome measure: We will categorize the related factors inside our questionnaire as:

  • Gender (male, female).
  • Academic level in each year (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th) by percentage.
  • Satisfaction about: - the faculty they are simply enrolled in. - academics / professional medical years. - Sensible sessions and academics lectures. Utilizing a likret range of satisfaction (highly satisfied, satisfied, partially satisfied and not satisfied).
  • Hours taking in participating in activities inside or outside faculty per week (0, 2 h, 4 h, 6 h, > 6).
  • Dwelling place (rural, metropolitan).
  • Cause of access of the faculty ( interest in the medical field, luxuries income, parents influence, communal position, job security yet others)
  • Intention of career planning and chasing a particular specialty (Yes, No).
  • Recommend the medical field to others (Yes, No).

Methodology:

Design: Combination- sectional research using a organised web- founded pilot tested and self-administrated questionnaire.

Setting: 10 out of 19 randomly selected medical classes in Egypt (Ain Shams, Al-Alzhar medical institution in Cairo, Medical academic institutions in Alexandria, Assiut, Banha, Bani Suef, Cairo, Menoufia, Suez Canal and Tanta).

Population: Undergraduate medical students in Egypt.

Eligibility conditions:

Including requirements: Undergraduate medical students in the ten medical colleges where will carry out our study. Randomly selected with an equal allocation of students in each medical college and then in each group.

Excluding conditions: we will exclude non Egyptians students.

Study duration: Five calendar months from 1st April 2015 to 1st Sept 2015. STATISTICAL Concerns:

a. Sample size:

To achieve a 99% CI, 2% margin of mistake and 50% response syndication, 3644 students will be asked to stand for the analysis population.

b. Data examination:

This section will be written by the statistician. STUDY Methods:

a. Questionnaire development:

The team of the study developed a questionnaire after a complete literature review; questionnaire took one week and you will be accepted as the study final questionnaire after pilot study. b. Questionnaire validation:

A pilot review will be conducted by the research team after a massive literature review to ensure the questionnaire validity, consistency, clarity of Questions and verifying that it's satisfactory and well accepted. Then the questions will be modified based on the results of the pilot study and expert opinions to develop the ultimate questionnaire version, this will take a week. c. Sampling and allocation strategy:

We will select study members by multistage sampling strategy; selecting ten medical universities around Egypt (Goal Shams, Al-Alzhar medical institution in Cairo, Medical academic institutions in Alexandria, Assiut, Banha, Bani Suef, Cairo, Menoufia, Suez Canal and Tanta), this will take per month. With the same allocation strategy. d. Recruitment of participants:

People who match our eligibility requirements will be recruited using their collage emails and social mass media emails (Facebook e-mails) to load our online questionnaire, this will take six weeks.

e. Data Collection:

In each university there will be a well-trained team of data collection, this will need a month.

Ethical Consideration:

Ethical Agreement will be studied from Institutional Review Boards (IRB) of the Menoufia faculty of drugs.

An educated Consent will be taken in which each subject has been prepared of all facets of the analysis.

The rule investigator and the co-investigators will be committed to the ethical key points which may have their origins in the" Declaration of Helsinki".
