The aim of this assignment is to convey the meaning of Psalm 23 by exegesis and analysing it. Exegesis comes from a Greek expression that means to guide out, It is the process of going to the written text to know what it means, and "acquire" the correct interpretation.
The psalm is poetry which is changed into simple metaphors using that it is God who's the shepherd. The metaphor of the Shepherd in within verse 1 of the psalm, 'the Lord is my Shepherd'. The sheep aren't left to their own devices but are led by the shepherd for taking the "right path", this is the one that provides the sheep where he need to go. The shepherd (God) serves in a way that reveal and confirms his persona and nature. To have a name is to keep a good reputation, the shepherd (God) acts to benefit for the sheep, in a way that is regular with the type His name discloses.
In verse four the palmist says, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of fatality, I will dread no bad, for you are beside me; your rod and your personnel, they comfort me". Here the psalmist moves to a information of fearful hazard he purposefully emphasise the danger and threat that confront the flock. Verse five says, "You prepare a table before me in the existence of my enemies, " You anoint my mind with olive oil my glass overflows. The term table continues the metaphor and is usually to be grasped as God growing a stand, a banquet celebrating God's provision and safety. As god, the father is the good shepherd, so we live his sheep, not frightened, passive pets or animals, but obedient followers, wise enough to follow person who will lead us in the right place and in the right way. This psalm does not focus on the animal-like attributes of sheep but on the discipleship qualities of those who follow. While you recognise the good shepherd, follow him! The psalm encouraged us, comfort us, correct us and God is seen as a caring shepherd, and a reliable guide and coordinator.
