Women are always seen as temptress and are warned to distance from almost all religions. They may have extremely limited flexibility. Under some certain religious ideas, men are named as the boy of god but women never have similar treatment that to be seen as the girl of God. Using extreme religious cults, there are much more serious discriminations against women; they can be prohibited from reading any religious scriptures, and the abuse is to obtain their tongues cut off. Women are also prohibited from entering the places of worship. Despite the fact that women may allow taking part in religious techniques, they only can participate in their own house or joining to household spiritual ceremonies in private. Although nowadays, tons of obstacles against women have being removed, women remain facing tons of hindrances and obstructions in executing the problem of moral and religious existing in various parts of the entire world.
In pre-Buddhist days and nights, the social frame of mind to women was extremely unfair; women were inferior compared to men in both bodily and mentally. Women places were at home, men was required to bear the responsibility of caring for women; so that ladies were regarded as being of little use and burdens. Women were also thought to be sinful, to atone their sins, the only path was to keep them working endlessly with the duty of motherhood and household duties, keep them away from making any troubles. That was why a delivery of a female offspring was considered as a sign of misfortune in a family. If a wedded woman failed to produce any male child, she might be substituted by another wife or even kicked out of our home; because a male offspring must be considered a continuance of the family. A normal perception that only son could carry on the father and grandfather''s businesses after their fatalities, also only male offspring could in a position to bring ritual and security to the family but women could not. A relationship was regarded as a holy sacrament, so that unmarried young women were badly criticized and disdained by population. Women were thought that they could never reach the heaven, unless these were fully obeying to their husbands and experienced no complains. Women had no educated freedom, education was minimal important to women, so performed religious belief, it was limited. Due to limited freedom, women would not have chance in undertaking in any spiritual techniques. Despite extreme social discriminations are against women, Buddhism can be said that it has the least discrimination towards women.
Buddhism is the first faith that giving identical opportunities to women in practicing religious concerns. Buddha does will abide by that ladies have certain natural weaknesses and tendencies in looking at to men, however, he still is convinced that girls has certain capabilities and capabilities to develop and purify their imagination like men do. There is absolutely no uncertainty that Buddha is the first faith based starts the gate for females to possess full participations on the field of faith, lead women into the way of full religion life.
Buddha''s teaching about the type of life 'V cause and impact, life and loss of life, karma and samsaric. He gives public a chance to consider on changing the communal behaviour towards women during his time. Regarding to Buddha''s coaching 'V The Law of Karma, means each individual is responsible for one''s own activities and it consequences. The physical condition of father or grandfather will not affect the next generation, the child and grandson. He feels our lives were all is determined by one''s prior action. These enlightenment teachings helpe to improve the general public views towards women and decrease the anxieties and problems of women.
In early on Buddhism, women started to be equal as men, basic views on women were being evolved. Unmarried women were no more being criticized or despised anymore, they could go along, unabused or they could manage younger sisters or brothers. The teachings of Buddha had efficiently wiped off many irrational beliefs and meaningless rituals. When Buddha spread out the true character of life and death, intelligence and understanding on humans were arisen. This corrects the prevailing public injustices and prejudices which were uncontrolled against women, it also helps women to find their own life-style. Actually, Buddha is sensible in his observation on the sociable and physiological differences between women and men, but he didn''t consider women as being inferior compared to men; instead he accepts the variations between two sexes, and considers women and men could be evenly useful to the world. Buddha emphasizes people are in the same position in the family; both are sharing the same and equivalent duties. In Buddhist thought, women could play in several jobs, being good moms, good wives to make the family life success. Sometimes in the family, wives are seen as the substitution for husbands while the husbands are indisposed. Wives are also likely to acquaint themselves with the business enterprise where husbands employed; so that ladies will be in the position on controlling the affairs which men i did so. This example confirmed that in Buddhism, men and women are occupying the same position.
Buddhism doesn''t restrict either educational opportunity or spiritual freedom. Buddha feels that girls are talented enough to realize the truth, just like the men are. So Buddha permitted women going into the Bhikkhuni Order. During the time of Buddha, the Bhikkhuni Sangha was established and it still is out there now. Since it set up, the ordained women have been training the Buddha''s teachings. It is a new course of culture and communal services which providing abundant opportunities for general population; it also brings ladies in knowing their importance to contemporary society and enhances the position of women.
When women could actually prove their capability in taking care of their obligations in the Order, the Buddha did recognize women''s talents and talents and provided them positionsone in Bhikkhuni Sangha. Buddha possessed said, to be able the women could attain and a man and then consented to the establishment of the order for Nuns, but only in eight conditions: ''1. A Bhikkhuni even if she was at the Order for 100 years must respect a Bhikkhu even of a day''s ranking. 2. A Bhikkhuni should reside within 6 time of travelling distance to and from the monastery where Bhikkhus reside for advice. 3. Observance days and nights a Bhikkuni should talk to the Bhikkhus. 4. A Bhikkhuni should spend the Vassa (rains retreat) under the purchases of both Bhikkhus and Bhikkhunis. 5. A Bhikkhuni should ply her life by both and requests. 6. A Bhikkhuni should on two years have the higher ordination (Upasampatha) by both Orders. 7. A Bhikkuni cannot scold a Bhikkhu. 8. A Bhikkhuni cannot recommend a Bhikkhu somewhat is should be the other way about. '' ( WEB, http://buddhanet. net/e-learning/history/pajapati. htm). Throughout these eights we can easily see how Buddha helps women to be equal as men.
As we expected, monks should treat nuns in the same way that men in general in India society at that time, however, nuns were treated unequally; these were told to completely clean the monastery and wash dishes, robes and rugs, it made them got too little time to study and practice the teachings; so that Buddha set up rules for monks in regarding how to treat nuns. In those days of Buddha, Nuns experienced equal privileges and equal share in everything. A tale of eights robes shows how Buddha balanced well between monks and nuns. Eights robes were wanted to both Sanghas where there was only 1 nuns and four monks; Buddha divided the robes into fifty percent, giving four to the nun, fours to the monks, because Buddha realized the robes were for both Sanghas and acquired to divide similarly no matter how many people in each group. What Buddha performed was to protect the nuns and was fair to both people.
Buddha believes that women are identical as men but not the same as men; so that girls have their own obligations in evaluating to men. These are requested to be honor and respect to husband''s relatives and friends, it helps creating a congenial and happy atmosphere; women are also advised to see and understand their husband''s characteristics, find out their personas and personalities. Women should be kind, polite also to be watchful in their marriage and husband''s profits and manage in family members expenditures. Buddha''s frame of mind on women is seen in his response while his good friend, King Kosala possessed a new birth little girl but he was expected a son; Buddha then replied with a affirmation that adorned women by emphasizing certain women characteristics:
''Some women are indeed better (than man) Bring her up, O Lord of man. There are Women who are wise, virtuous, who've high respect for mother-in-law, and who are Chaste. To such a noble better half may be given birth to a valiant Boy, A lord of Realms, who rule a Kingdom. ''
Buddha believes that women will surely do as much as men can, or may be sustained than men; there is something that men might not able to do but women are able to, not men can only enlighten, women can also too. Subha is the example of enlightened nun. She had a perfect beauty and could have married a prince, but she all quit and thought we would pay attention to Buddha;s teachings. Subha listened intently, at the end of the discourses, she achieved that stage of Stream Entrant and her family allowed her to be always a nun. Her family no longer tempted her back again to the family because they know Subha do find out the reality of live.
Buddha has different tips to different kinds of women. Buddha appreciated that the committed women balance the peace and tranquility at home. His advice is genuine and useful, it tells what women should and should not emulate. Buddha recommended that a partner shouldn't have evil thought against her hubby, and also should not be cruel, harsh or officious. Married women should safeguard and save husbands'' property and continually be righteous and innocent at heart and action. They must be faithful no thought of any adulterous functions; in addition they should be kind, industrious, hard-working, humble and respectful. Wedded women should equate a mom loving and safeguarding her only son. Lastly, married women should be cool, peaceful and understanding, not only being truly a role as a of partner and also re a job of a friend and adviser to husbands. Apart from giving advices to wives, Buddha does not have any bias to husbands, he also plainly mentions the obligations of them on the wives.
Buddha had educated a lesson of impermanence for the vain and beauty conscious. Buddha uses his psychic capabilities and creates an illustration of a lady in front of Khema, the beautiful wife of ruler Bimbisara. Khema admires the wonder until Buddha changed this fake woman from young ones to middle age group and then later years, until it finally she falls, and also have broken teeth, gray locks and wrinkled skin. This demonstrates to Khema and folks the vanity of external beauty, and people should appreciate the type of life. To women who were psychological and heartbroken on the loss of their loved ones. ''From devotion springtime grief, from affection spring fear, for one who's wholly free from affection, there is absolutely no grief, much less dread. '' (Buddha Sakyamuni, Poem/www. buddhistvihara. com/newsletters/2003-winter/status_of_women. htm ). Buddha comforted the upset women by expressing this phrase. Buddha instructs us to understand the actual fact - the unavoidability of fatality, rather than being annoyed, women should appreciating the type of life.
I consider Buddha''s attitude towards women is the fact that Buddha does help the women struggling for right using period; without him distributing his teachings, ladies in India or any other parts of the world may not able to have either education or religious freedom, and still being discriminated. As I understand now the equality proportion between female and men is 0. 8:1, what Buddha do does influence our nowadays society, not only the equality between male and feminine. By establishing the Bhikkhuni Sangha, women have chance to be nuns in order to determine the reality of life.
Nuns do not only gain themselves but also the societies where they live. Nuns are naturally the good types of women; these are real, natural and live in the spirit of non-harmfulness. Besides from their spiritual studies and methods, they help ladies in certain challenges and matter problems about women in regarding of abortion, menopause, prostitution and other conditions that women would rather talk to other women. Nuns can also help unmarried mothers, the majority of them do not need to have an abortion and they do not know how to handles the situation. Nuns can also help women who go through after having an abortion. As Buddhists, abortion is discouraged, however, many women undertake them. These women have regret and lost emotion therefore the nuns need to help them what they do is purify its karmic and encourage them to step forward in their lives without guilty rather than look back. ''The nuns'' order has great potential, whatever nuns do will have a ripple impact for Buddhist women all around the globe; nuns will use their collective energy to help each other, to contribute to society, and also to preserve and disperse the treasured teachings of Buddha. '' by Dr. Chatsumarn Kabilsingh
Buddha described not only women weakness but also their potentialities and talents. However, some of the Buddha''s assertions may seem upsetting, observe carefully, what Buddha possessed said about women are still right in nowadays. Although in virtually all countries have accepted women and opened up different opportunities to women, women still have to tolerant the unpleasant experience and discriminations no subject how great the women''s electricity can go over the obstacles, because there are always exceptional.
