Reflection on Engineering Placement



CE 3. 1

As a student of second previous semester of Bachelor's Degree, I prepared a work record as a person on a title called 'Continuous Improvement in Development of Lamination Team'. This previous career episode represents relating to this work article completed at the faculty of work positioning 2, Jayco, 1 Jayco Dr. , Dandenong, Australia. The task was completed in 8 weeks from Oct 2015 to Nov 2015. I pursued my Bachelor's Degree in Executive Technologist and customized in Mechatronic from Chisholm Institute, Australia. I acquired constant support from Daniel and Jeffery and gained training from them.


CE 3. 2 Mother nature of project

Jayco Australia, possessed some issues arising in their lamination department, it was resulting in time wastage of labor and cost. Jayco is a recreational vehicle products supplier in Australian market. They wanted to rectify the issue, for this function I had recorded a report depending on some of these issues. The record was document to track record the duties performed at the task placement in lamination section of Jayco. I put to understand the position and role I was going to contribute to the company based on what sort of company runs. I had been introduced to the business and my duties, task, timing, and office was assigned if you ask me. I understood its organizational buildings and responsibility and the developing processes that occurred in lamination division. Problem statements were identified after detecting the issues and the reason for its occurrence.

Lamination process consists of 4 major phases. These are:

Stage 1 - Welding (Framing) - involves chopping the rails of aluminium or ply, welding them collectively, grinding the surfaces and writing chassis number for recognition.

Stage 2 - Filming - fill up the casings with Styrofoam, Gal pieces and blocks.

Stage 3 - Pressing - apply adhesive to add the structures and put it under press machine.

Stage 4 - Routing - here, it is trimmed and unnecessary areas are removed right out of the lamination.

CE 3. 4 Objectives

The primary aim of the project was to handle the problems arising in the creation and to provide a possible and appropriate solution that could help rectify the condition and assist in bettering the efficiency of the development specially in the Saws and Lamination team. It could also augment the price. My job is divided into three different objectives and goals, that is dependant on some matters arising in the company after understanding the its role. A stepping rock is taken forward towards my primary aim by completing one of these three goals.

Objective 1 - Full explanation to PM (Precautionary/Proactive Maintenance) from RM (Reactive maintenance) and CLPR (Cut List per Run) from BOS (Mass Ordering System)

Objective 2 - recommending and suggesting posts on the drawings.

Objective 3 - Rectifying the misalignment between the plan, drawings and chop lists.

The below graph shows my position for my work report. It is regarding my school supervisor and the departmental administrator of JAYCO.

CE 3. 6 Tasks

  • In-depth research and studies was completed on lamination process.
  • Based on my review, I prepared various possible solution that matched the requirements.
  • Presented my goals and tasks to the company manager for authorization.
  • Layouts and work ideas were made.
  • Mathematical computations were needed for deciding the sizes of each part/part.
  • Learnt how CNC shield is controlled and G code is designed.
  • Performed online and sensible assessment on the operating machine.
  • Compared various components before selecting them.
  • Prepared various executive drawing for implementation of my task by using engineering tools.
  • Task was divided into small parts for achieving higher accuracy.
  • Kept good relationships with supervisor.
  • Reporting the introduction of the task to the lab supervisor and planner.
  • Regular meetings were held with the administrator to get feedback of the progress.

I started to work on my first target where the issue was that the regular disorder in inventory of the blocks was creating wastage in labor time and cost. I discovered that the problem was related to the Saws office and filling section. To rectify this matter, I recommended full move to PM from RM and CLPR from BOS. To research the issue, a reverse tracking process was applied of the primary cause. I prepared an activity chart that explained all the operations it involved. Machine down-time was mentioned in the Saws section hair to reactive maintenance, it was triggering delay in schedules. Then the blocks weren't getting delivered on time, so ordering of blocks was needed in BOS in lamination office, and in filling up section, due to type and way of delivery, there was wastage in labor time and cost.

I then started my research on what exactly BOS and CLPR are and its function. So basically, from my research work and notes, I came to a spot that BOS exhibits limited amount of information generally and CLPR is more data specific and concentrates notably on each run. In the current block development system in the Saws division is making use of BOS i. e. volume order system which is the major matter. In such situation, the ideal mode of creation would be using CLPR. I prepared a move model for the working of CLPR.

From my research and study, it was found that the Saws division transitioned from RM to PM and stop production of CLPR to BOS. CLPR increased the concentration of importance per Run and reduces the scrap. In addition, it optimized the development cost and saves time along with discarding of manual functions such as stock monitoring, ordering process and paper work movement. And by using PM maintenance type, it reduces the risk of production hold off, and provides more correct information. It had been discovered that the employees still suggest RM for use rather than PM at its on early stages.

For my second goal, there was a suggestion on updating the ideas as these were too old. So, I went start, and it was discovered that there is wastage of materials and awning blocks on door side casings. So, I tried out to analyze the problem and find the answer to boost the efficiency of the production. I made few pulling using engineering tools to understand the basic functioning of the side frame and the reason of awning of the blocks.

It was found that there was full amount of awning of the blocks at the front end and the trunk part. And there was blocks in combo of full size along with top and underlying part. On understanding the problem, maybe it's summarized that there had to be an upgrade in the drawings related to the ongoing activity and the business had started taking those ideas. The possible alternatives could be still done by offering the clients the option of attaching the electric awnings.

Thus, after proper research and development on each task and issues, various ideas were suggested. For objective 1, I advised to arrange a system that records the details of the machine down times and whenever diagnosed it ought to be fixed to avoid disruption in the flow of production. Pareto diagram can be proven as per the studies of the machine down times and can be produced use to find and improve the PM composition. Considering the aim 2, by organizing a structure that could determine the degree of blocks can be eliminated and evaluations can be produced between the genuine dependence on the stop and measurements for complete product per Run. By this way, likelihood of wastage can be reduced and the workload can be minimized which results is reliable and affordable production. And in case there is objective 3, there is a distance of communication between your departments which may be rectified by optimizing the stable communication system and troubleshooting it by lessening the human problems that appear at the look stage.

CE 3. 13

While, there was a transition period of block creation system, and the blocks were reported at the filling up section wit incorrect specifications. To solve this, was my third goal. For this purpose, an intensive troubleshooting was required so the misalignment between CLPR, drawings and the plan can be resolved. I studied a sample case and known my observations and findings from that. It had been found that there was an issue with the measurements. They were calculated and corrected. The wrong specs was reported and prepared for the best possible solution and given to the concerning team to fix the misalignment concern.

I had effectively completed the training and pleased the company by giving my conclusions and suggesting them various possible alternatives. I constantly reported them about my progress and maintained a wholesome professional marriage with them. I utilized various executive knowledge that I learnt from my level course, like project management, executive mathematics, anatomist CAD etc. these content became the bottom for my research work. It helped me understand various principles easily, therefore i could suggest new ground breaking alternatives. This work placement experience provided me a corporate experience and improved my technological skills. I shown a PowerPoint presentation and last work thesis that referred to in details about my studies and research work.
