For this assignment I will describe personal worth, prejudices, moral dilemmas and the impact they experienced on sociable work practice by reflecting on one of my values and how I needed to issue myself to overcome it.

Personal principles, Prejudices, Ethical Dilemmas, Discord of Interest and their effect on Social Work Practice

I work on a farm where we often have Polish as well as United kingdom people working there. Cultural (C) - distributed beliefs between others, what's incorrect or right, therefore forms a consensus.

Structural (S) - how oppression of culture is produced through organization who support social norms & personal beliefs e. g. faith, media or administration.

P: Son in the team you just work at makes offensive and derogatory feedback in regards to a gay man who attends also. He says that 'gay people aren't natural' or 'normal'.

C: Gay people basically repulse the community around him, and lots of the community members are involved with the neighborhood church, holding stable views about 'intimate morals'.

S: Popular tabloid marketing berates the 'unusual' activities of gay people. Spiritual leaders of all faiths support the instatement of laws to stop similar privileges for gay people. Legislation is handed by parliament that compromises the rights of gay, lesbian and bisexual people. There is an overwhelming 'consensus' of power found in all varieties of structural life.

By using the PCS model it can help a person build an idea as to why others act just how they actually e. g. the stereotype of an adolescent using a hood, you believe they are simply trouble designers because of the particular press have reported, but not every teenager is out for trouble.

Another theoretical framework to tackling oppression and discrimination is through empowerment.

By empowering someone methods to permit a person to get control over and taking responsibility for own their actions. The Humanistic strategy by Carl Rogers (1959) induces visitors to become empowered.

As student communal workers we could educated about empowering the service individual, to concentrate on their strengths and also to interact as equals, we also need to safeguard vulnerable people, to take into account a person's economic, political and ethnical background at exactly the same time.

Groups also work to empower people as they provide support and if they become one they can become powerful. But the weaknesses are: there's a danger that the social staff member can put their own views onward and not those views of the service customer, the advocate can take over, thus the service end user can become disempowered and the social worker may find that by using advocacy it can put them in conflict with the organisation where the work with, their loyalties can become split.

The legislation set up is to help and protect people against inequality and discrimination, for example:

Equal Pay Works 1970 & 1983 - prohibits discrimination due to sex relating to pay and terms of contract.

Race Relations Work 1976 - prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, nationality or ethnic origin.

Later amended in 2000 to include a work on public government bodies in undertaking their duties to own due regard to remove unlawful discrimination and also to promote equality.

The British Association of Public Work (BASW) has a code of ethics relating to how social workers must are more ethnical aware. Paragraph 4. 1. 6 (pg. 49) states that as a social worker you will:

Recognise diversity among ethnicities and then recognise what the impact of their own social & ethnic identity can have on others.

Gain working knowledge and understanding of service users cultural and social affiliations and the principles, beliefs and traditions associated with them, even although service users may be different.

Communicate effectively in a terminology where both get-togethers will understand, if needs be then by using an independent interpreter.

By using the various tools I have learnt through the course I am able to struggle discrimination, inequality and oppression, I will be more available minded to people that need help from cultural services and regardless of what their cultural background is I will be able to use this knowledge effectively.
