At the age of 15, I began dealing with my mom. My mother cared for people with disabilities inside our home, as a way to earn money I'd assist her in her daily tasks when I got home school. Some days and nights were challenging and fun at the same time; there are many different things that I've discovered and skills that I have developed that will assist me as I grow older in my own personal and professional life.
Some of the items I discovered are basic life skills. I'd help you by doing laundry and cleaning rooms; I'd get equipment ready for showers, and construct clothing for bedtime. There days and nights where I'd get to work hand and hand in the kitchen with mom learning how to get ready meals. As part of my mother's job responsibilities she were required to budget her clients finances, and in finding her do this I have discovered to budget my very own money more efficiently. These are all skills that will be beneficial to me as i am living by myself.
I imagine from watching cases placed by my mom in her daily work I have learned to manage my time wisely. I have discovered how to set goals for myself, and also have also discovered to make schedules to make sure I get responsibilities completed promptly, which will ensure I meet my set goals. I understand that by learning how to use effective time management skills I am going to better learn how to keep professional and personal life from clashing and contradicting one another. With out these conflicts I am a far more successful person.
I have discovered to speak effectively verbally and nonverbally to a diverse group of individuals. Often times I've seen my mom talk to her clients in a variety of ways, they have got the inability to talk their needs. In working the customers I have found ways to communicate with them to gain an understanding of what they need. I have discovered to read their body language and can notify by different facial expressions whether they are frustrated, angry, and sad. I've learned the value reading of body language to provide me perception on what a person is really thinking or sensing.
It provides me a good sense to know that I am in a position to help someone that cannot help them selves. They might not even be able to give you thanks but the giggle on the face says everything, and it could be the littlest thing like obtaining a coloring publication off the most notable shelf, making a handbag of popcorn, or finding a common blanket. I have sat and read books, colored, or played out music and helped bring fun or a chuckle or two, however the thought of bringing a bit more happiness to the customers made it all worthwhile while. They have even given me the name "Brother".
As a part of dealing with my mom I've learned to dress appropriately for different situations. For example when I'd travel with mommy and the customers to the doctor's office, it might be unacceptable showing up in ripped up jeans, untidy hair, and tennis shoes. I have discovered a professional should dress the part. The method that you dress shows how you are feeling about your job. It implies that you take delight in your task and that you will be seriously interested in what you do.
One major point I have learned by doing this job is demonstrating compassion towards others and I've came to the realization that is something lacking in this world. I have also realized that no person is strictly the same, and in my own professional and personal life it'll be essential to give value to get esteem whether it's with a coworker, customer, family, or a friend. It's important to set a good example because others notice our activities and learn from it, so easily am doing something wrong then others might too.
I assume that the data that I've gained through learning how to manage my time correctly and how to create goals for myself, how to make, clean and do laundry, as well as how to budget my money can help me after i get to move out by myself. I think the skills I have learned while working will be very important if you ask me as I get into the work world. I believe I have learned some very special skills that be helpful to understand people when working with others whether it is a supervisor, subordinate, or a person. I feel I have already been educated important skills to get ready me for my adult life.
