Peckham Catalogue is a collection and community building located in Peckham, southeast London. Peckham Catalogue opened to the general public on 8 March 2000, with an official starting by Mr. Chris Smith, secretary of Point out for culture, marketing and sport. The catalogue was designed by Mr. Will Alsop from Alsop & Stormer Company and it received the 2000 Stirling Award for architectural development. It also gained the Civic Trust Honor (April 2002) for brilliance in public structures, combined with the London Eye and Tate Modern and the Copper Cladding Award for it's vivid copper external surfaces.
The building looks like an inverted capital letter 'L', with top of the part recognized by thin steel pillars set randomly perspectives. The goal of the, (Peckham Catalogue) building was to excite, appeal to and draw people's attention so they might start interweaving with the Library.
The library opens at 9am and closes 8pm and includes seventy adult reading places, free internet access, word processing facilities and disabled access toilets.

Peckham Library has 22 glass windows which are the majority of the changing times shut.
The building does not have any air-conditioning, it is therefore naturally ventilated. There exists shading in various areas about the building; which means sun light cannot easily pass through. This kind of ventilation is named passive cooling
The concrete frame of the building, which is subjected to the soffit, also supports the ventilation, because combination ventilation occurs and helps the cement in terms of mid-air temperature, which avoids heat from coming into the interior (warmth gain elimination).
The window sections, which are laminated with four different film layers with different color film, are very useful themselves, because during winter they help with keeping the frigid air away and the heated air to stay inside the building. However the home windows can be easily opened, because a collection is a location with many people and it needs a certain amount of air so it won't get stifling.
The building has a radiation system on the wall space and the floor, therefore the room gets a certain amount of heated air during winter months.

The glass windows in the roof and the glass windows on the sides of the building allow a major amount of light to come inside, but manufactured light is also used since there is insufficient light during winter months or in the early mornings and overdue evenings.
During my first visit I've noticed that the lights in the collection were started up plus some of the bulbs which are set in the high roof were straight lighting the area.
The light made the area more enjoyable for the tourists and simpler to read. Some lights were more inside the ceiling and encircled by a mirroring effect, which helps the light to pass on across the room.
This demonstrates Mr. Aslop had not been counting on natural lighting, as the building has 300 light bulbs. If the signals in the catalogue ever needed to be changed, it would take four days and nights for the work to be achieved. The closure angered Southwark council innovator Stephanie Elsy mentioned: "This is merely not acceptable and we can not let it happen again" she said. "It's quite extraordinary that it has to be sealed to do tedious maintenance work. I cannot believe this is the only approach".

Before the look of any building, architects and organizers are being asked to measure out the website and to locate the piping and electricity.
It is also known that if someone needs to know of what type of floor has an area, he must look at the old properties at this area. In prior years contractors used materials which were easily found around the area these were build the home. A significant portion of the structures external surfaces is protected in copper steel. Traditionally copper metal is being mainly used for pipes; however the copper given by TECU, a German creation company, is used within an unconventional manner in Peckham Collection.
Alsop's design required a material that might be cheerful but intriguing therefore TECU-Patina provided the inexperienced horizontal sheet cladding which has a very distinctive appearance. Information about water and the pipes in Peckham library building cannot be found, as the people in the library explained that such information is private.
Instead, I found the plan of level four of the building and searched for the toilets. That's where the pipes will be.
The water in Peckham Library is black drinking water, which means that it is utilized only in the sanitation system of the building, as the collection will not provide other areas that water is needed.

Firstly the windows faade of the building is manufactured out of Vanceva Interlayer Shades windows. They are created out of different coloured layers set up between levels of clear wine glass. When I seen the catalogue, the floodlights were on, even throughout the day. The structure of the building is a synthesis of two rectangles.
Mr Alsop wanted to make something that is eye-catching and very difficult to miss. One of the most clear structural feature of the building is the top overhang which is supported by slim, slanted steel columns. From the outside it appears that the collection floor is balanced 12m in the air by the poles and all of those other building is tightly grounded.

The structure on the inside of the Library is quite interesting. It appears that there are three smaller building inside the building, in which you can get inside and read.

The staircase at the back of the building is very unusual; it is made out of cement, metal and a glass. The cup is placed in the middle of the steps so that it allows the light through the entire back area of the building.

What I would change/add.
If I had a choice to change something in the building I'd add a tiny cafe at one of the three pods or at the roofing. I assume that it might be a good notion and that it would attract even more folks than it can now. People could have the opportunity to relax and revel in a cup of coffee or tea while they read or relax.
Peckham Library is a open public building that draws in many people and gives an opportunity to learn about different civilizations and civilisations.
This project were able to bring a confident publicity to the area and attract visitors to come and visit it.
That has a positive have an impact on not only at the financial situation of the region, but at the ethnic as well. People exchange ideas, learn from one another meet new people plus they broaden their horizons.
