In the play Hamlet, Hamlet is the Denmark Prince. Initially, Hamlet is faced with the ghost of his inactive father, the previous king of Denmark. The ghost instructs him that he was murdered by Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, the existing ruler. The ghost then asks him to avenge his loss of life. Hamlet decides to act like he is crazy so he would have a much better shot at eliminating him. While pretending to be crazy Hamlet has the Players work out a play that was like the murder of Hamlet's daddy. Claudius ended the play half way through. After he sent everyone away Claudius started to pray and Hamlet sneaks through to him about to avenge his father's death. However, he chooses not to kill him then because if Hamlet kills Claudius while he is praying then Claudius goes to heaven. He makes a decision to hold back until he hasn't had a chance to confess before he kills him. Hamlet is so against him going to Heaven rather than Hell because Claudius wiped out Hamlet's daddy before he previously a chance to confess to God, so Hamlet thinks he went to hell. Hamlet didn't try and kill him again until the end of the play. At the end of the play Hamlet is sword fighting with someone that Claudius has made an idea with to get rid of Hamlet. The plan was that the dude would use a pointed poisoned sword so is Hamlet got cut he would be poisoned and expire. The back-up plan in the event Hamlet wins is that Claudius will offer Hamlet poisoned wine in celebration. However his mom beverages it. Hamlet was lower with the sword and after his mother passed away he stabbed Claudius with the poisoned and makes him drink all your wine. Then Hamlet dies (Shakespeare, (1011-1107). The two has both have the same theme of self-destruction (StudyWorld). However, the plots were very different. Oedipus the Ruler appeared to go backwards. Oedipus's past was revealed as the play advanced. But with Hamlet the reader seemed to already know everything.
