Searching for the murderer Oedipus starts to find out about his origins and true self applied. Hamlet on the other side is about a Hamlet, the prince of Denmark, seeking to avenge his father's fatality. In the play Oedipus the Ruler Oedipus was born to a ruler and a queen. The parents wished to know the future of the kid so they had an oracle tell them a prophecy. The prophecy told them that he will kill his father and marry his mother. To protect themselves the parents sent the baby away to be wiped out. However, the child is not killed. Instead he's sent to another kingdom to be increased by way of a different ruler and queen. The brand new parents never notify Oedipus that he's not theirs. When Oedipus hears he is to destroy his dad and marry his mother, he leaves his parents and looks for a new home. While on the road after going out of his home Oedipus runs into a man. Oedipus and the man battle and he killed the man. He then locates a castle and becomes a ruler. Oedipus wedded the queen. To save lots of his kingdom Oedipus must find the murderer or the previous king and remove him from the kingdom. While looking for the murderer Oedipus feels that the man on the road that he killed was actually the previous ruler. As he verifies his idea he learns that the ruler was actually his father and he is married to his mom, Jocasta the queen. When Oedipus would go to confront Jocasta he discovers her dead body. He stabs himself in the eyeballs from the pain and grief that he has determined. He is later banished from the kingdom (Sophocles, 969-1008).

In the play Hamlet, Hamlet is the Denmark Prince. Initially, Hamlet is faced with the ghost of his inactive father, the previous king of Denmark. The ghost instructs him that he was murdered by Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, the existing ruler. The ghost then asks him to avenge his loss of life. Hamlet decides to act like he is crazy so he would have a much better shot at eliminating him. While pretending to be crazy Hamlet has the Players work out a play that was like the murder of Hamlet's daddy. Claudius ended the play half way through. After he sent everyone away Claudius started to pray and Hamlet sneaks through to him about to avenge his father's death. However, he chooses not to kill him then because if Hamlet kills Claudius while he is praying then Claudius goes to heaven. He makes a decision to hold back until he hasn't had a chance to confess before he kills him. Hamlet is so against him going to Heaven rather than Hell because Claudius wiped out Hamlet's daddy before he previously a chance to confess to God, so Hamlet thinks he went to hell. Hamlet didn't try and kill him again until the end of the play. At the end of the play Hamlet is sword fighting with someone that Claudius has made an idea with to get rid of Hamlet. The plan was that the dude would use a pointed poisoned sword so is Hamlet got cut he would be poisoned and expire. The back-up plan in the event Hamlet wins is that Claudius will offer Hamlet poisoned wine in celebration. However his mom beverages it. Hamlet was lower with the sword and after his mother passed away he stabbed Claudius with the poisoned and makes him drink all your wine. Then Hamlet dies (Shakespeare, (1011-1107). The two has both have the same theme of self-destruction (StudyWorld). However, the plots were very different. Oedipus the Ruler appeared to go backwards. Oedipus's past was revealed as the play advanced. But with Hamlet the reader seemed to already know everything.

Oedipus the Ruler and Hamlet are extremely different when it comes to time period and setting although they were both set typically in the castle. Oedipus is defined in enough time of Greek gods in the historic city of Thebes. Hamlet, however, was occur the country of Denmark in a time when Catholicism was quite strong (Hibbison). The character types reacted to the situations that they experienced in ways that shown the setting up. Oedipus would pray to the Greek Gods. Hamlet would pray to the standard God and his religion was mirrored in his activities. Throughout the play Hamlet was hesitant to become a murderer. When Ophelia killed herself it was thought to be a sin because taking your own life is a sin in God's eyes.

There were some similarities between the two play. There were also several variances. The takes on were both placed in different time periods. Also, the plots were completely different. Oedipus was attempting to save lots of his kingdom while Hamlet was trying to avenge his daddy by eliminating the ruler. Both are such wonderful bits of literature and will not soon be ignored.
