In the book, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, sympathy is generated in the character types. Through the novel, Satrapi is able to communicate and generate sympathy in character types through the use of aesthetic representations in the format of the graphic novel. A graphic novel is defined as a narrative work in which the story is advised to the reader using sequential art. Satrapi characterizes many personas in the novel with having sympathy for one another and having sympathy due to many problems in the community like the Islamic Revolution which is happening at the time that this novel was written. The Islamic Trend identifies the events relating to the overthrow of the Pahlavi dynasty under the Shah Mohammad. Moreover, the Islamic republic was under Ayatollah, who's the first choice of the revolution. By using structures and drawings with reduced text, Satrapi is able to give the audience a different type of textual interpretation. Satrapi is able to converse this different kind of textual interpretation with the use of dark and white background and credited to each page of the book having six to eight panels demonstrating her childlike knowledge of the planet. Although Satrapi communicates sympathy in many other ways, Satrapi can best generate sympathy with the use of aesthetic representations, dark imagery and by using a child-like knowledge of the world.
Satrapi is able to best generate sympathy by using aesthetic representations. On page 66 -panel 6, there's a visual representation displayed that presents Marjane's Uncle proclaiming "everything will be alright" (Satrapi 66). This little bit of data is important when talking about how sympathy was produced because with the use of the graphic novel term face, Satrapi is able to express that Marjane's Uncle was concerned because his face indicated sadness due to his brain being tilted in a downward position, and his eyebrows being slanted downward. You can interpret that Marjane's Uncle was sensing sympathy for Marjane in the visual representation credited to his cosmetic gestures. Furthermore, the graphic novel term backdrop is important when conveying sympathy because the dark-colored background represents dark and you can infer that everything will never be alright, although Marjane's Uncle said they might, due of the backdrop being entirely black. Satrapi's use of imagery and shade greatly depicts that Marjane's Uncle is experiencing sympathy because one can infer that his tone was sad due to the visual representation shown showing his head being tilted in a downward position. Satrapi's style is creating a sorrowful tone to mention the sympathy that Marjane's Uncle and her family are experiencing. Satrapi making these thoughts that the character types are being and expressing further shows how sympathy is generated in my opinion.
Satrapi creates sympathy in the characters with the use of the dark imagery. On site 57, panel 4, there is an image that identifies how Ahmadi was tortured. The usage of dark imagery used in this panel talking about the torture of Ahmadi makes Marjane's family achieve sympathy after learning the knowledge that Ahmadi experienced. On the same page Marjane expresses "I never imagined you could use that appliance of torture" (Satrapi 57). This piece of data is also important when describing how sympathy was generated because it further demonstrates the sympathy that was gained because Marjane was unacquainted with how cruel Ahmadi was cared for and she thought terrible after hearing his about his mistreatment. By using the graphic novel term edges, Satrapi's can convey the importance of the torture of Ahmadi because it was a bigger -panel than all of those other panels regarding the webpage. Because this -panel is bigger than the rest it shows how vibrant the torture was and exactly how important the torture was at the novel. You can infer that Satrapi was attempting to convey to viewers that the panel with the torture field was important by causing its size bigger than all of those other sections on the webpage. This further shows the significance of the torture field because of the sizing of the panel. In addition, the graphic novel term faces can further illustrate that Marjane and her family were experiencing sympathy because their faces were all surprised and their minds were tilted downward with sorrow looks on their faces. These facial gestures further demonstrate the sympathy that Marjane and her family gained after experiencing the storyline of how Ahmadi was tortured which further illustrates of Satrapi is able to make sympathy in characters in the novel. Satrapi's style is creating a vibrant and descriptive aesthetic representation to further demonstrate the torture that Ahmadi confronted to show how bug of an deal this was. This aesthetic representation further addresses the emotions gained after ability to hear and having the ability to imagine the dark imagery of the torture of Ahmadi.
Satrapi creates sympathy in individuals by using a childlike knowledge of the globe. On site 8 -panel 5, there is an image that presents one of Marjane's friends reading a letter to a class room about her daddy. This little bit of proof is important when describing how sympathy was exhibited in heroes because with the use of phrase choice, Satrapi is able to illustrate how Marjane was a kid and was innocent, because children resemble innocence to anticipated to being young. Marjane has little words when looking to make her good friend feel better about the problem. With the use of speech bubbles, one can interpret that because Marjane is a kid and innocent credited to her response being brief when wanting to make her good friend feel better about the situation with her dad. In addition, the graphic novel term face can symbolize that Marjane was sorrowful which is represented by her saddened face in the -panel. . Satrapi's firmness was remorseful because her good friend was reminded of her daddy when reading the letter to the category. Marjane profits much sympathy after experiencing the notice and endeavors to help her friend feel better. Satrapi's style is creating a child's viewpoint how she addresses her friend seeking to make her feel better. In my opinion, this betters my understanding and helps me better imagine the sympathy gained in Marjane although she might not exactly have had the opportunity to interpret much due to her innocence.
To conclude, Satrapi can depict sympathy in the format of an graphic novel which, as mentioned earlier, is defined as a narrative work in which the story is told to the reader using sequential art work. The Islamic Trend also is important in individuals experiencing sympathy for just one another in the novel. My understanding of social and contextual factors of the book was better because I learned the significance and how important Satrapi point of view of her life is basically because it shows just how Iranian people live everyday and the way the Islamic Revolution has damaged the folks of Iran. With the use of casings and drawings with reduced text, Satrapi is able to give the reader a different kind of textual interpretation. Satrapi is able to converse this different type of textual interpretation by using dark-colored and white qualifications and due to each webpage of the book having 6 to 8 sections demonstrating her childlike knowledge of the world. You can find a great many other ways and forms that can express how sympathy in the book is gained. Satrapi can best generate sympathy in character types in the book with the use of visual representations, dark imagery and by using a child-like understanding of the earth.
