How Much Solid wood Could a Woodchuck Throw Essay

The poem "Woodchucks" simply by Maxine Kumin is about the dehumanization of a man until he is completely opposite from the person he used to be. He could be desensitized until he can rationalize to himself a mass extermination. It shows the effect hatred and evil can easily have over a human's soul and how which could change their behavior. The poem starts with the guy having a bias against one particular population, the woodchucks, which in turn finally advances into a personal vendetta towards them. Mcdougal, Maxine Kumin, mainly uses dramatic irony and significance to show the way the growth of evil inside of a person until all of that is human is designed away. Some other literary products are also used in her poem. These devices incorporate characterization, unnecessary repetition, and metaphors.

Kumin uses dramatic paradox constantly throughout her composition. You can see remarkable irony in what the speaker knows and also what Kumin, the author, needed the composition to portray. Symbolism is usually quite numerous throughout the composition; the woodchucks and the farmer are used to represent more than the actual just may actually characterize. The poem is not merely about a farmer that loves killing small animals; there may be more that is hidden in the writing.

Throughout the whole composition, as you appear from stanza to stanza, the speaker's civility alterations consistently. The speaker begins as a pacifist farmer who follows along with what his community's frame of mind was on the woodchucks. The way in which that he and his fellow farmers start to see the woodchucks is known as a nuisance that should be dealt with. Because the poem develops the speaker's hate towards the woodchucks continues to grow because they continue to evade his efforts to get rid of them all and finally put an end to all their continued annoyance to him and the...

... portraying the farmer since the person with an increase of power as well as the woodchucks are targeted while the less strong of the two, is really effective. Through remarkable irony, she shows how a seemingly faithful ideal could become dangerous. If a person is able to justify the extermination of the entire race-or as Kumin portrays in her poem, an entire species- this is when the foundation of mankind begins to fade leaving behind a human completely desensitized.

This poem represents the holocaust. This goes through the desensitization with woodchucks rather than stating the Jewish people. This poem used a large number of literary gadgets to help represent the meaning that Kumin wanted to get across to the target audience. The two key literary gadgets that she used to show her picture were remarkable irony and symbolism. These along with the various other devices were used easily to help put this composition together.
