Lady At War: Lack Of Encounter Essay

Girl at Battle highlights the ignorance a lot of Americans hold toward warfare due to not enough experience. When Ana initial arrived in America, she ultimately came to an awareness that her "time pertaining to grieving was running short. People were receiving impatient. That wasn't their fault. It absolutely was near difficult, even to me, to have Gardenville and Croatia in the same thought" (136). This quote is extremely revealing to get Ana since it encapsulates the idea that she has no-one who truly understands what she is dealing with. This suggests that by Betisier saying "it wasn't their fault" (136), she causes that these folks are not "getting impatient" (136) on purpose, nevertheless that they just don't have the experience to reason why Ana was grieving for too long. Even Ana, who had the traumatizing connection with war are unable to fathom the vast differences between Gardenville and Croatia's way of life. Although a lot of Americans try to understand what the repercussions of war (such as trauma) may seem like, they will never actually arrive to complete realization. This kind of quote shows that this is a misrepresentation that many Americans maintain, and that this discrepancy should be resolved.

The incorporation of the 9/11 horror attack in the us serves as an evaluation of the War on Terror and the Croatian Civil War. There is also a resemblance towards the major shift that occurred between ten-year old Ana's drive house to Zagreb and what 20 year aged Ana was doing when the towers dropped. There was serenity before an abrupt shift to terror. Choix was in "chemistry class making periodic desk jokes with [her] lab partners" (107) when the podiums fell. Even though the initial distress was similar, the War on Terror's repercussions for Americans were starkly different. Choix states, "for most [Americans...

... a. This enables readers to achieve insight about the consequences of war alongside Ana. This understanding is unique coming from an average American's point of view of war since many Americans are indirectly rather than directly impacted by war. Readers also see a direct comparability between Betisier before (as a child archetype) and after the lady loses her innocence as a result of war. Major differences between citizens of Croatia and America are seen through the personas of Spicilege, Rahela and Brian. The idea that the injury of conflict never ends, at least mentally, is acknowledged through Ana's disturbing flashbacks in her nightmares. Readers slowly but surely may become educated about a few American's unawareness of the direct consequences battle. Just as Ana loses her innocence, Lady at Conflict guides the reader to lose their innocence by what war is within America when compared to other countries such as Croatia.
