Essay about Psychological Principles in the Film Gran Torino

Clint Eastwood's film "Gran Torino" footprints the end in the life of Walt Kowalski. He has recently gone through a whole lot – the death of his much loved wife, his distant relationship with his kid, his mental scars from the Korean Conflict and his awful health. These things prevent him from living a suitable life. He doesn't value himself very much – he smokes even though he is sick and tired, he doesn't eat a great deal, he refuses to confess even though that was his wife's last would like. However , all this changes when he meets the Hmong Family that lives next door. At the beginning he detests them because of the similarity towards the Koreans, nevertheless later, as he gets to know them, they turn to be the friends and family that having been never able to have. The storyline traces the psychological within Walt's personality due to his unusual bond with the Hmong family, which changes are one of the main strengths of the film.

The film begins with the funeral of Walt's wife. She accustomed to keep Walt going and her death ruined him. He is not really in peacefulness with himself and he refuses to consult with the Sacerdote about the things that bother him. From his dialogues with all the Padre we understand that Walt knows more about death, than this individual knows about living. According to Maslow's Hierarchy of requires we can claim that he is far from attaining his self-actualization, because he would not feel safe and he does not belong even to his relatives. Walt is usually not close with his daughters and grandchildren and they do not respect intended for him. Walt's grandchildren also refuse to visit him on his birthday, although they know that he is alone following their grandmother's death. This kind of family may very well be to be unconventional, because normally the most well-known people needs to be the most respected in the whole friends and family. A compare to that may be the house bes...

... helps you to save Thao one last period. Walt reveals how much this individual believes in Thao by departing his Nan Torino to him. Thao seems to be the only person that is definitely deserves to provide the car that Walt offers put a whole lot effort in.

The film "Gran Torino" reveals us the expansion of a person and the relationships and activities that led to this progress. Walt improvements a lot – he triumphs over his ethnical differences with all the Hmong as well as his strong bond with them allows him discover redemption. He dies pleased with his lifestyle. For me the film provides message that if a person is not at peacefulness he or she wasn't able to achieve self-actualization. I think we find ourselves through changes. The difficulties and the frequent struggle for what we need and what we have not had allows us boost. As we accept the issues that existence gives all of us and the people around us, we find peace with themselves, just as Walt did.
