Desmond Tutu's View on Racism
"We reside in a country taht has a lot of casualties and disasters. A few of
these are the natural way caused, most are caused by person in his
inhumanity to his fellow guy. You have to have the sensitivity of affection
not to damage people's pleasure. Don't be a do-gooder. Occasionally all that
is important is to visit a banned or perhaps detained person and show that you
do not dread contamination and that you don't fear the system... "
NOTE: These collected assertion is obtained from a conversation Desmond
Tutu gave in December 81 to a selection of women. This speech may be
found in the entirety in Hope and Suffering compiled by Mothobi
Mutloatse and modified by Ruben Webster, Bill B. Eerdmans Publishing
Company, Grand Rapids Michigan, 1983.
"One with the ways of assisting to destroy a lady is to inform them that
that they don't have a brief history, that they have no roots. "
"There is definitely an old film called The Defiant Types. In one picture, two
convicts manacled with each other escape. They will fall into a ditch with
slippery edges. One of them claws his way to near the top and just
about helps it be. But he cannot. His mate to whom he is manacled is
still at the bottom and drags him down. In order to they can get away
to freedom is with each other. The one convict was black and the other white:
a dramatic parable of our condition in South Africa. The only way we
can survive can be together, black, and light; the only way we are able to be
truly human is usually together, black and white.
"In our Africa language all of us say 'a person is actually a person through other
folks. ' I would personally not know how to be a person at all besides I
discovered this from other human beings. We could made for a delicate
network of relationships, of interdependence. We could meant to
match each other. A myriad of things go horribly wrong when we
break that critical law of our being. Not really the most effective
nation may be completely self-sufficient.
