Analysis With the Movie ' Bessie Mears ' Essay

Although character of Bessie Mears made limited appearances throughout Native Boy, Richard Wright implicated her as a portrayal of the prevalent attitudes and experiences of African People in the usa during the time period. There is also an element of tragedy to Bessie's character, as she faced dual oppression for being both Black and a woman. Bessie is actually a forgotten figure in the novel and she serves a reason for Wright, as opposed to getting viewed as a person. Instead, she is a symbol that tones up the level of resistance and splitting up between Bigger's personality and actions from those of of his equally-oppressed friends and family.

The thought of a character being used being a symbol rather than being seen as human may seem counterintuitive, yet Wright emphasized this technique through the treatment of Bessie by different characters in the novel. The smoothness that has the most devastating results on Bessie throughout the book is Greater. He can simply fulfill his own requirements, and does not consider how he impacts her. After doing the homicide of Jane, Bigger was trying to figure out how to handle it and made the decision "Yes, Bessie was the a single he planned to see now. Funny, he had not thought of her very much during the last day and night. Too many thrilling things have been happening. He previously had no need to think of her" (129).

Any time Wright had Larger interact with Bessie, it constantly consisted of Larger acting nonchalant and less interested than the girl was. Actually after he kills her, "he pressed her because far out in the arms as is feasible, then released. Though this individual did all of those things, Bessie deserved notoriety in addition than the girl received. She represented the most vulnerable people of society by living her your life under the sociable constraints which were placed upon her complete race.

Bessie's directly to live was stolen by all of the previously mentioned characters, specifically Bigger and white contemporary society. The unjust society the girl lived in kept her via experiencing your life while the girl had the chance, and Larger completely emaciated any probability Bessie experienced of salvation. All of these scenarios and specifics of life for Bessie and other African Americans had been tragic. What made this much more devastating was the forced acknowledgement it necessary for an entire branch of society to reside such a dull way.
