When I had been young, I never really had a dream to become educator. My education also was not in the training field. I acquired never been educating everywhere before I performed at my college or university. Therefore, teaching is a new thing for me. When I began to instruct, I came to the realization that it had not been easy to become good teacher. It had been a huge responsibility. Everything you train today could have an effect on someone's future. Thus, as a tutor, I need direction as my base to become a good educator.
I believe it is important that personal beliefs about education be explored. This will be an ongoing and evolving process, because accumulating a personal viewpoint of education has been a journey of search and breakthrough. It will grow over enough time based on experiences, and also on personal and educational developments. The challenges that I am going to meet during the journey stimulate new demands to become a better educator. Like a tutor, it is my wish to connect with my students. I believe teachers should give the students attention and require them in coaching and learning process. This article is approximately my viewpoint of education. It will be organized as follows: first, I will offer my point of view about the seeks of education. Second, I will illustrate my beliefs about coaching and learning methods. Third, I'll present my views about curriculum execution. I will then express my ethics and morality in teaching and learning process. I will close by concluding my philosophy of education that I mentioned before.
My idea of education begins with what Personally i think about education. For me, the aims of education should include and coach intellectual, personal, civic, social, and moral areas of life. This will ensure well-rounded and well balanced individuals. Education isn't only about growing students' intellects but also producing students' mental capacities. Education should create people who care for other folks. We do not need create intellectual but ignorant people.
Education also needs to give attention to the civic responsibilities of people beyond the class room. I believe students should be motivated to attain out in openness and service to the city beyond the institution, to become positively involved with their community. Individuals should obtain skills through education which contribute to self-reliance in solving problems of each day life. I feel students should develop admiration for the custom, ethnicities, and values that occur inside our diverse world. Students should develop prices that'll be beneficial to the common welfare of modern culture. In addition, Personally i think it also very important to education to adopt programs that develop value for the environment. Students should identify and aware about their environment and exactly how to employ ecological life. I recognize that to accomplish those goals is a challenge. I am hoping my philosophy of education can help me and students to accomplish them.
As a teacher in a distance education university, my emphasis is online teaching. It is a lttle bit different from coaching in a "conventional" or in person university. I usually have a huge online class for my course. Sometime it is difficult to focus on every student singularly, but I really do assume that students need attention to make them engage with the course. They need to be recognized as an individual. So, my beliefs of education is a student-centered one. I believe in concentrating on individual needs, and regarding students along the way of the learning. It really is my belief that each differences have to be respected. I believe all students have strengths, and this is the goal of education to assist students in identifying and building upon these. These beliefs are stronger when i have been their studies at Simon Fraser University (SFU). I see that students can learn more if they are engaged with the lessons and with the educators. Therefore, the lessons need to be interesting and instructors have to give their best focus on the students.
I also believe Freire's (1970/2000) theory about teacher-student with students-teachers. He argued that "the instructor is no more basically the-one-who-teaches, but one who is himself or herself educated in dialogue with the students, who subsequently while being taught also coach. They become jointly accountable for a process where all grow" (p. 50). I think it can be employed in distance learning university, where the majority of the students are adult learners, and parts of the teaching-learning process are based on tutorials. In this method, educator and students have opportunities to build up discussions, and from those, we can study from each other.
For me, the most significant learning takes place when students are motivated and interested. It is my belief that the best way to achieve this is giving students a tone of voice in the training process, and by helping them to find links in the curriculum with their own life and passions. By allowing students to bring their own reviews, activities, and ideas into the classroom, we offer the students with opportunities to work together, to learn from each other, and also to respect each others' distinctions. I also assume that students should be given opportunities to relate their learning and critical thinking skills to communal challenges and problems outside of the classroom. Not merely do students have the potential to produce a difference within the world, they can expand as individuals in the process. This approach has the advantages of empowering students and building their self-confidence and problem solving skills.
Related with curriculum, I believe institutions and educators still hold the primary role in producing curriculum, and educators can be adaptable in the curriculum execution. I learned from my experiences in SFU that students could be involved in curriculum execution. They are given a chance to give their suggestions, so educators can identify their needs. I believe when teachers give the students opportunities such as this, it will make them feel challenged to learn and be more interested and satisfied with the training process.
Studying in a distance learning university is challenging. Students have to become self directed-learners. They have to be self-employed. However, sometime they have to ask and consult about their research difficulties with teachers. That's the reason I also believe that I should be a good facilitator for my students. Not only should I be considered a good teacher academically, but also I should be a guide to my students. If there are some questions and concerns about their research, I am going to help them extensively, administratively and academically.
My philosophy also includes respects, kindness, responsibility, democratic coaching, endurance, and time. Even though students and tutor have different assignments, I think that I, as a instructor, have to take care of them with admiration, because when we respect one another, the coaching learning process will run efficiently. I also have responsibilities to provide my students a good quality of education. Students should gain something helpful when they analyze. In addition, if you ask me, because students also need attention, as a educator I should show patience and present them my time for hearing.
My beliefs of education has been designed by experiences in my own life and my education. Personally i think that attention as well as relating students are essential as elements of the teaching and learning process. WHEN I enter the career of education, my philosophy may evolve as I gain experience as a teacher. However, the foundations of my educational viewpoint will continue to guide me in the way which I interact with my students.
